Australian Insitute of Management

About AIM

The Australian Institute of Management - Queensland & Northern Territory is a not for profit entity which invests its annual surpluses in the creation of education products, alternative education distribution channels and learning support materials.

The sole purpose of AIM is to promote the advancement of education and learning in the field of management and leadership for commerce, industry and government.

AIM adds capacity to managers by providing opportunities to learn, develop know-how and better understand practical management. We do this through a range of services in business and management training, events and seminars, coaching, research and publications, supported by a specialist management bookshop and library services geared to graduate school education. Our membership base is made up of 5000 managers in Queensland and the Northern Territory and 1000 company members.

We celebrate managers' achievements each year through the Management Excellence Awards, run throughout Queensland cities and the Northern Territory.

Our subsidiaries include TheCyberInstitute, a leading e-learning solutions company, and Management Press, a boutique business publishing house.

Early days

On 26 July 1950, 52 businessmen met in Brisbane to lay the foundations for the Queensland branch of the Australian Institute of Management. Originally located in Eagle Street, AIM Queensland took up residence in its current premises in Spring Hill in 1964.

AIM's presence spread throughout the state with regional committees in Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, and Toowoomba. The Northern Territory branch was established in Darwin in the mid-1970s.

Today there are nine regional centres of AIM that deliver formal and informal learning services to their local communities.

Recently, AIM established an office on the Gold Coast, a facility which supports training, coaching and informal learning.
