McQuaig Survey

The McQuaig Survey is a versatile assessment tool that empowers users to self-manage their development. In addition to providing enlightening personal insights, the survey offers actionable feedback and a process to ensure that personal development is aligned to organisational goals.

The McQuaig Survey is designed to identify and analyse strengths, preferences and stress factors through a self evaluation process. Understanding these factors helps to explore and evaluate a range of potential roles, tasks and lifestyle options. It enables a more thorough understanding of possible obstacles to success and therefore guides effective decision making.

By providing specific, easy-to-relate-to action items, the survey supplies actions for users to implement for their own developmental benefit.

New Directions Survey

New Directions is a powerful, comprehensive and fully integrated career counselling tool. Self understanding is enhanced through analysis of education, work history, skills, interests, personality, values, aspirations, personal circumstances, and external influences.

Career exploration and progression is facilitated through a thorough investigation of likely compatible Industries, Career Clusters, Occupations, Occupation Specialisations and Career Combinations. It is usually the discovery of career combinations, based on a person's unique combination of strengths and preferences, that ignites a person's inner passion and inspires them to take that step forward.

The New Directions report is used as a focus for understanding self and discovering motivating career and life options. This report acts as a platform for discussion in the Feedback session with the AIM Organisational Psychologist.

360° Facilitated® Feedback Survey

The 360 Degree Facilitated Feedback Tool is both a self assessment, and a way to gain valuable feedback from team members. As the name suggests, this tool allows the individual to nominate team members (managers, peers and staff) to complete a feedback survey to assess team interactions from every level.

These research-based questions define the twenty areas of behaviour based on the Leader/Manager Model which is AIM’s preferred 360 degree feedback tool. The assessment covers the four elements of People Leadership and Task Leadership as well as People Management and Task Management.

Once the surveys have been completed by the nominated parties, reports are generated and a graph of the feedback shows a visual impression of the person’s particular skills and abilities (see illustration next page).

360 Degree Facilitated Feedback rests on these basic assumptions:

  • Success in managing a team often stems less from improvement in the manager's skills, knowledge or qualifications than it does from what they choose to treat as important. It is about the priority given to various activities. Listening to people, or agreeing objectives with them, are often taught as skills: what really matters is whether the skills are utilised
  • The best people to give feedback on someone's approach as a manager must be those being managed (feedback from peers may be confusing initially, though it can be important at a later stage). This assessment therefore provides a way for managers to obtain upward feedback on the approach they use
  • While the specific competencies necessary for managerial success vary greatly with the situation, there is a general consensus on the areas that make up successful Leadership and Management behaviour, and this is where the assessment seeks feedback

360 Degree Feedback Model

Using the leader / manager profile offered by 360 Feedback, the process is:

  • Low threat – feedback, not a manager appraisal
  • Covers the full range of areas in which managers must be effective
  • Encourages managers to investigate differences between fact and perception
  • Assists in goal setting for development

The range of leadership and management traits assessed are derived from the latest research on Australian normative benchmarks.

The illustration below is sample of the outputs of the report. It shows the leadership and management elements, and the scoring system used. One of these graphs will be generated for every respondent group (Managers, Peers, Staff, Self) and will be used to illustrate trends during the one-on-one analysis with the AIM Organisational Psychologist.
