Overview

Creating and maintaining a safe workplace is the responsibility of all employees with increased responsibility for those people in manage­ment roles. This program examines the Workplace Health and Safety legislative framework and the organisational policies and procedures required to translates it into the workplace.

Managers, supervisors and others with the responsibility of monitor­ing or ensuring the maintenance of safety in the workplace.

  • The Workplace Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • WH&S responsibilities of people in the workplace
  • Establishing an OHS system
  • Occupational health and safety tools and techniques
  • Risk identification and management
  • Establishing and maintaining a WH&S quality system

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the basis of WH&S legislation and accompanying workplace policies and procedures
  • Explain the workings of WH&S consultation in the workplace and how issues raised are handled or treated
  • Identify and organise WH&S training
  • Follow procedures for the identification of hazards in the workplace
  • Follow procedures for the control of risks in the workplace
  • Follow workplace procedures for the recording of WH&S incidents and their rectification

This course meets the requirements of the following units of Competency:

  • BSBOHS407A - Monitor a safe workplace
  • BSBOHS509A - Ensure a safe workplace

BSBOHS407A is a core unit of competency for the Certificate IV in Business and the Certificate IV in Business Sales. BSBOHS407A and BSBOHS509A can be counted as Electives towards other qualifications in the Business Services Training Package.
